Mustard Yellow, Starting with the Basics

Fall is on its way, but very slowly here in the Deep South, still hot and sticky.  In the meantime, the calendar says otherwise, so now is the time to spruce up your Fall wardrobe.  I hope you enjoy this versatile 4-day series.  One easy and inexpensive way to perk things up is to bring in a new color and a few accessories for the season.  This year the big Fall color is mustard yellow —  I know what you are saying, and probably shaking your head back and forth, “Oh, I can’t wear yellow, especially that weird yellow”…. am I right?  LOL.  Let me show you how, be brave!

Let’s start with this basic blouse.  You can build several different looks with this soft and flowy tunic with accessories, two ways to tuck and by adding a third piece.

I just received this lightweight crepe mustard yellow blouse from Amazon.  You know how I love Amazon!  Not only do they have great prices and quality, but the styles are things that you will not always find in your common clothing stores.  So you will end up wearing unique things and not “see yourself all over town”, as my mom used to say.

The blouse is just the right length with a flattering rounded hemline with the tied 3/4 sleeves adding an extra accent of style.  It buttons with one small button at the back of the neck for easy on and off with plenty of room to not mess up your hair and makeup.

The softly pleated front makes the blouse extra comfortable without being billowy.  A fully tucked blouse with multiple cheetah accessories and shoes breaks up the bold color with warm Fall tones.  I have had the Franco Sarto cheetah shoes for a few years now, they were on sale at DSW.  If you look closely, you can see that they have fur on them, I don’t know what kind of fur, but they feel like petting a chihuahua. Here is a similar option at Amazon.  I LOVE my fun cheetah belt and wear it often with many different things, it is a must have item especially for Fall, from Amazon for under $10 here and below:

(Note: YAY!!!  The mustard blouse is back in stock!!  It does sell out off and on, so act quickly — ORDER UP ONE SIZE since the fabric has only a slight stretch)

Adding on the chocolate pearl necklace further balances and warms the mustard yellow blouse.   I also jazzed up my Fitbit Charge 2 with an inexpensive cheetah band from Amazon, why not!  This is an older Avon necklace, but I found a similar option here on Amazon.

Who says that fitness can’t be stylish?  I purchased two different bands for my new Fitbit Charge 2 to make it more stylish since I want to wear it as much as possible to record my steps and physical activity.  Love my cheetah band and I also have a beaded bracelet style.  If you have been looking for a Fibit, Amazon still has the lowest price here:

You can see the beaded Fitbit Charge 2 band in my previous post here that also shows other fun accessories:

Tuck and Boot Mustard Yellow

The front tuck is still a fun fashion trend that gives the blouse and outfit a relaxed yet chic look.  The front tuck looks best with softer fabrics.  Experiment with how much you tuck in across the front of your waistband to find what works best for you.

The suede sandal type bootie with chunky heal will also be the look for Fall.  This shoe looks great with many different types of jeans and pants, especially when you are not needing a full boot and open sandal season is gone and we are transitioning to Fall.

Go Wild with Mustard Yellow

Adding a cheetah infinity scarf to your mustard yellow combo really warms up the look and provides a nice break-away if you do not want so much yellow closer to your face.  My scarf is really old, but I found this #1 seller on Amazon for you:

Many styles to choose from with this scarf listing, all for under $10.00

Thanks, Candi! The cheetah and dark jeans together bring down the brightness for the blouse to become an accent piece. We cannot be afraid of color, most can be worn with the right balance of accessory pieces for a flattering balanced look. Thanks for visiting! 😀

Love this color on you Lori Jo! I love the mustard yellow paired with something navy. I was going through my closet the other day and came across a mustard top, and a long navy cardigan vest…. I was thinking how nice they would go together! Lol…… Now if the weather ever cools down, it’s been a very warm Sept so far, still feels like summer! I’m not complaining! I also love your booties! I have a black pair and really want to get a beige or taupe color this fall. I really love wearing them with boot cut jeans! I seem to be seeing a lot of animal prints, especially in coats…..is that the new fall/winter trend? Or maybe it just never went away…lol…… Have a wonderful day! 😉

Hey, Kathy! Thanks, Kathy — Today’s (Thursday) post will be olive and mustard, just like a relish tray, LOL. So glad you were inspired by the Day 1 post, so many options for your already great style – The brown bootie and animal print will be strong this Fall/Winter. Animal print has become a classic and can be done in so many ways, even if it is “over done” it still seems right. Not sure if I could pull off a coat in animal print, but a handbag would sure do the trick. Thanks for visiting, talk soon! 😀

  2. Lori Jo I love that color for fall. It sings of all that is joyous and happy. You have done a great job of coordinating it and that scarf really adds interest to the look. I’m also loving those leopard print shoes.

  3. You are adorable! I love mustard and navy together for fall. I just can’t wear it around my face.

Awww, thank you, Lisa! If you break up the color with accessories and a third piece as “distractions”, the color can be worn by most. Hope you found enough inspiration to give it a try! I have two more posts this week about more options, so stay tuned 🙂

  4. Hi Lori Jo! Love how this color looks on you!!! I can wear a lighter version of yellow but not super bright. Remember when we all used to have our colors done? I’m a summer but I do like spring tones. Look not so good in the others. 😉 Happily pinning to my Fun and Funky Clothing for everyone who does!

    Happy fall,
    Barb 🙂

Hey, Barbara! Glad you enjoyed the post and thanks for pinning/sharing it as well. I remember the “Color Me Beautiful” era, but don’t feel locked into “rules” – all colors can be worn by everyone with the right “distractions” as I call them to break it up and customize it just for you. So don’t be afraid to venture out, with flair! Thanks for visiting 🙂

Absolutely you could wear it, Sue! A bold necklace or scarf can break it up to suit your comfort zone, be brave, no style ruts, LOL! Color is fun to play with 🙂 Thanks for commenting, talk soon.
