Georgia is now having a rainy spell since there is a storm in the Gulf sending bands our way. So, we were inside most of this past long weekend for Memorial Day. We cooked, cleaned, read and watched a lot of baseball, go Braves! Memorial Day has come and gone, but I am going to continue the red, white and blue outfit theme through this week with three to four more variations of this color combination to show how much variety there really is. You can find the pre-first outfit in this past “Star-Spangled for Summer” post which is a casual patriotic tank top with white jeans version. I could have kept on going with more examples, but this will give you a good start. Red, white and blue can actually be worn all year long with warmer pieces, but these are lightweight for summer since it is now upon us. So, welcome to Day #1 of my week to show how to wear red, white and blue in different ways. All of the outfits are worn with the same jewelry and shoes to show how those work with every outfit.
Bohemian Style with Red, White and Blue
I found this Bohemian style top a couple of weeks ago at Stein Mart when I was looking for a solid red t-shirt to wear on our St. Louis trip. After I grabbed my solid red shirt, this Bohemian (“boho”) top called out to me! My eye grabbed onto the dominant red and blue in the fabric and I also loved the playful style of it. Don’t you just love the sleeves? This season is still all about the flowy bell sleeves, so many variations to choose from.
Bohemian Style with Distressed Jeans
The jeans are “Izzy Skinnies” by Michael Kors. I bought them on clearance at T.J. Maxx. All “skinnies” are cut differently from each designer. These are actually not the “hugging” type like the ones I have from Old Navy. You can see more slack in these, I would call them “straight” versus true “skinny”. The bohemian style top goes well with distressed fray hem jeans combined with the dressy sandal; kind of a neater “hippie” look. The red, white and blue tassel necklace actually came attached to the red t-shirt I mentioned earlier, so I just snipped it off to wear with other things. The elastic bracelet is from Avon and is just red, white and blue plastic beads.
Bohemian Style Fashion Sleeves
The brand of the bohemian style top is “Bila”. It can be worn with so many colors, I just had to have it. Aren’t the sleeves fun?! They are called an “angel sleeve” or “half sleeve”. Definitely my “going out” top since the sleeves are not practical for washing dishes or other household chores. The top is made from a rayon georgette type fabric which is like a crepe, lightweight and flowy. I like it because it is loose and comfortable, but not overwhelming to my actual size. The slim jeans balance it well. Flowy wide legs on pants with a flowy top is just too much. If I had to choose, I would say that slim on the bottom and flowy on top is the most flattering way to go. I found similar options for the blouse here on Amazon:
This photo shows the softness of the top and another view of the sleeves. I chose to pop out the red with my red sandals to balance the blue in the top that played off of the dark blue jeans. I have had the red sandals for a couple of years, they are “Rayana” by Life Stride with light support. I found similar styles for you on Amazon:
This was actually my “travelling outfit” that I wore on the plane back from St. Louis to Atlanta. It was very comfortable walking through the airports and sitting on the plane. I always want to be dressier when I fly since Big T works for the airline. They used to have a stiff dress code that meant full business attire for both of us, suit for him and dress and panty hose for me, but they relaxed that several years ago. When was the last time you wore panty hose?
