Learn How to Layer T-shirts – Day #3 Red, White, Blue Our neighborhood was scheduled to be repaved last week, but then it rained, and rained, and rained……. like many parts of the country right now.  We kept receiving notices for the new date, then that changed, and changed, and changed…. you get the picture.    The final notice said that work crews would begin tomorrow and to park your cars at our amenities area where they would shuttle you around by golf cart.  Well, they started today without notice!  So, I am kind of trapped while they let it cure and then apply another coat in a few hours, they said they would be finished maybe by 6:00 p.m., we will see.  No problem, I have plenty to do inside with no appointments.  Big T gets home around 2:30, so he will probably be chauffeured home by golf cart.   Peachtree City…

Welcome to Day #2 of my week  showing how to wear red, white and blue in different ways.  All of the outfits are worn with the same jewelry and shoes to show how those pieces work with every outfit.  If you missed Day #1, you can start with that previous post here which is Bohemian style, fun!  Day #1 had a lot of color, so for Day #2 I went the other way with a calm white top with red, white and blue printed pants. Printed capri pants can be a bit tricky, but many variations will work.  Again, it is balance and proportion with the printed capri pants.  The taller you are allows you to wear larger print and a wider more flowy leg.  Since I am shorter at 5′ 1″, it is more flattering for me to wear a tighter, repeated print with a slimmer leg.  These printed capri…

Georgia is now having a rainy spell since there is a storm in the Gulf sending bands our way.  So, we were inside most of this past long weekend for Memorial Day.  We cooked, cleaned, read and watched a lot of baseball, go Braves!  Memorial Day has come and gone, but I am going to continue the red, white and blue outfit theme through this week with three to four more variations of this color combination to show how much variety there really is.  You can find the pre-first outfit in this past “Star-Spangled for Summer” post which is a casual patriotic tank top with white jeans version.  I could have kept on going with more examples, but this will give you a good start.  Red, white and blue can actually be worn all year long with warmer pieces, but these are lightweight for summer since it is now upon us. …

I hope everyone is having an enjoyable holiday weekend and thinking about what this holiday represents.  Traditional cookouts are a nice way for friends and family to get together.  Honey and I bought a pork tenderloin for the grill.  I have posted a recipe here and below detailing how we grilled and the rub recipe that I used.  Even though this tenderloin was lean, it is rare for us to eat any meat other than chicken, so this was a treat.  I am health conscious since I have to watch my cholesterol which is bouncing around now that I am well into my 50s with 60 not too far away! //Grilled Pork Tenderloin & Rub Recipe// When we went grocery shopping yesterday, we were greeted by VFW Veterans handing out the “Buddy Poppies”.  Did you know that this tradition began in 1924?  There is no charge, but I always give a…

First off, this is a stock photo of a tenderloin, I was not quick enough to take a picture of our final results, sorry, ha! Our usual grilled item is chicken.  But, every now and then, we grill a pork tenderloin.  We practice healthy eating with mostly vegetables, low carbs and small amounts of meat, with chicken breast and pork tenderloin being low in fat.  The rub really makes a difference when grilling and helps retain the natural juices while adding to the flavor.  It can be used on any type of meat.  Enjoy! *(I am not offering medical advice with this post.  I am simply sharing the true results that I have experienced from using these products on a daily basis.  Your results may vary, for which I am not responsible)* As we age, most of us will have to change our skincare routine for desired results.  When it comes to skincare, I use a combination of brands that are affordable yet effective.  After forty years, I just tried a few things from Clinique again, and LOVE it…… wow, did I just say 40 years?  Yup, it has been that long since I first tried Clinique, when I was 18.  Now you know my age, ha!  Back then, my skin was oily with breakouts so I tried the Clinique  basic skincare set and foundation for oily skin.  Back then, the skincare set was too harsh for me, the moisturizer was too rich and…

Summer is getting here in a hurry after such a late start to Spring here in Georgia, the Deep South.  Boom!  It’s hot now, which I prefer.  We start with Memorial Day on Monday, remembering our fallen who bravely served.  I am a patriotic American proudly wearing our red, white and blue! Back in the Fall, I hit some huge clearance sales.  This red, white and blue tank top is Kim Rogers brand from Belk.  It is a patriotic screen print swing style top with tiny little faux crystals inside of the stars and flowers that may be hard to see.  I found three options for you on Amazon: //Option #1 Top//     // Option #2 Top//    //Option #3 Top// Not sure if I like the red, white and blue top with the side tucked up, but I thought I would give it a try for something different, looks kind of…

Playing with mixed textures and jeans in your wardrobe is a versatile option when mixing and matching pieces you already have, or when you want to add in a new focus piece.  These options are also good for transitional weather.  I wear mostly solids with some muted, washed prints near the face.  Tiny, busy prints just do not work for me and sometimes can be aging, or look like an “old” type print.    This post shows three options with texture instead of print, plus using the “third piece”.   These looks can take you from cool mornings, through hot afternoons, into a current casual evening look. This outfit is built around the fray hem jeans.  I am not a huge fan of really torn up, ripped knee jeans.  I leave that for a much younger “hip” crowd.  But, “lightly distressed” is good for us in that it is current yet…

Now that we are in Spring with Summer quickly approaching, I have had several questions and requests about how to wear sleeveless tops and outfits with mature looking arms.  I have them also!   My mother used to call that part that keeps waving after you stop waving her “pelican necks”, ha!  Regular exercise with light weights does help, but areas like this are going to be softer and more difficult to keep firm as we age, especially after menopause.  Many of us have also experienced weight fluctuations which also compounds the issue.  I have resigned myself to the fact that I will probably never have “Madonna” arms, but there are ways to dress that can help.   Sleeveless Details to Remember First off, make sure that the sleeveless armholes in the top are not cut too deep or too tight.  It should be a shallow cut and just enough to expose…

Are you afraid to wear certain colors, or much color at all?  Do you wear a lot of black because it is the safe color or because it is just the easiest thing to throw on?  I am telling you today, STOP IT!  You heard me, just STOP IT!  LOL!  Fresh, rich colors are our friend in fashion, especially as we age. Color near the face brightens and brings your eyes and skin tone alive.  Next to wearing some type of makeup, it is the best thing we can do for ourselves, so embrace color!  One of the best colors to start with is a coral.  Coral looks good on everyone whether your hair and skin are dark or light. It adds a refreshing glow to your whole look and is a welcoming color to wear; coral is a happy color.  Pick a coral that is not too orange-y or too…
